Biographical Info

Andrew Raij is a Research Associate Professor at the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Simulation and Training, where he is a senior member of the Synthetic Reality Lab (SREAL). His expertise lies in human-computer interaction as it relates to virtual reality, pervasive health, and their intersection, usually with applications to healthcare and behavior change. Broadly, he is interested in designing effective (and perhaps fun) interactions with personal health data. He is currently working on ways to visualize and present health data to individuals, ranging from the person who captured the data to the researcher who wants to leverage the data to build better health interventions. He is also interested in the use of avatars and other representations of the self as a component of interventions. Prior to joining SREAL, he was an Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of South Florida, completed a post-doc in mobile health technology at the University of Memphis, and received a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Florida.
