Biographical Info
I am a pediatrician, diabetes specialist, and researcher who is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Michigan Schools of Medicine & Public Health. My research focuses on the use of emerging technologies (mobile technology, data visualization, participatory game design, social media) and the creation of learning health systems (incorporating health systems design and design/ethnography) for improving outcomes in diabetes and obesity. I am passionate about the notion that human-centered design will transform the delivery of clinical care and the biomedical research enterprise. I co-lead an interdisciplinary collaborative called http://www.healthdesignby.us/, which supports patients as experts and “makers” in the creation of tools, technologies, and systems for their own health.
