Dr. Chunara is an Assistant Professor at New York University, jointly appointed between Computer Science & Engineering and the Global Institute of Public Health. She received her Ph.D. in Electrical and Medical Engineering at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, her S.M. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT and her B.Sc. (Honors) in Electrical Engineering at Caltech. Dr. has gained clinical experiences at hospitals in Pakistan, Kenya, and the United States, and was named an MIT Technology Review Innovator Under 35 in 2014. Her research interests focus on harnessing novel information sources and developing computational techniques to use the data to describe and predict population-level public health issues. She has worked with a variety of data types including from Twitter, Facebook and Amazon Mechanical Turk, mobile phone survey, sensor and call record data as well as built platforms to garner syndromic and diagnostic data directly from individuals.
